An eight-year-old Jefferson County girl credited with saving her mother’s life is being honored as a hero.
Lejla Jamidovic was presented a “Lifesaver Award” from the Rock Community Fire Protection District at a ceremony at Hodge Elementary Monday morning.
On February 7, Lejla was at home with her mother when her mother suffered a seizure. Lejla immediately called 911 and told firefighters how to get to her mother.
As her mother recovered, she was unable to communicate with firefighters clearly and was speaking in her native Bosnian tongue.
Lejla stayed by her mother’s side and translated so firefighters could render the proper care and treatment.
Because of Lejla’s quick action and accurate interpretations, her mother was taken to a nearby hospital and made a full recovery.
